After getting his MEng in Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology at the University of Southampton Rex joined the group in 2014 as a PhD student. His thesis investigated the optimisation, fabrication and application of Bragg gratings in optical fibre and UV written waveguides to quantum technology. As of 2019 he is now a research fellow within the OEQP group working on the development of novel gratings structures largely in optical fibre. Currently his main focus is on the development of tilted fibre gratings for polarisation, filtering and sensing.
In his spare time Rex enjoys baking bread, playing boardgames, along with experimenting in the kitchen and in his workshop at home.
